Discover Places to Go and Things to Do

Trip UK | TripWiser.com
Road Tripping in the UK is a bit different than taking a road trip
in the US. But in comparison to navigating through other countries, it
stands among the best places to enjoy a road trip, especially if you’re
traveling outside the US for the first time. One of the most unsettling things to experience in another country is to
be lost and not speaking the native language in order to get aid from
others. Taking a Road Trip to the United
Kingdom allows you to remain in your “comfort zone” while exploring.
First, the cautions:
- Gas is really expensive there. As of March 2005, the price is about $7.90 per gallon more than 2 times the price in the US).
- Driving on the left side of the road can be challenging if you haven't done it before, especially with their roundabouts.
- Roads in the UK are much smaller than in the US, and in the urban areas, they can easily become gridlocked.
- It rains more often there so always have a jacket, an umbrella, and a blanket in the car.
Now for the pluses:

- It rains more often there so always have a jacket, an umbrella, and a blanket in the car.
Now for the pluses:
- Most drivers are courteous to each other.
- UK road signs are easily readable and laid out well, so getting from A to B is good.
- If you want to spend time driving away from the cities, you will find pleasant, usually well-moving roads opening up to beautiful countryside.
- If you wanted to drive from one end of the country to the other, it would probably take about 10-12 hours (with a couple of stops). However, we don't recommend that as there is so much to see & do in between!
Comparatively: Driving in countries like France or Italy, is much more complicated.
- First, you can't understand the road signs;
- There are toll roads (especially through the mountain passes);
- Road manners are a bit ruder!
How much money to take?
- Basically, it’s the number of daily expenses times the number of days you’ll be visiting the UK. The hotel/food costs are comparable to those found in the US.
- Include a souvenir budget as well as money set aside for specific activities/shows/entertainment.
- Add 10% to each hotel cost for tips/parking fees, etc.
- Always include $25 per day for miscellaneous expenses.
- You could probably stay in a decent B & B for about $45 per night or a motel for $65 - $75 per night.
- Hotels would run higher (but then you'll be enjoying some of the higher comforts).
- Try to stay in places that offer breakfast. That will keep the Food Expense part of
your budget down.
We
hope this information will help you plan a UK Road Trip and have fun.
Few recommended places for UK Road Trips:
Sherwood
Forest, home to one of England's most famous medieval characters, Robin
Hood.
Durham
County, which includes a spectacular castle and Norman style cathedral.

London and Paris go together like Peanut butter and jelly. This is a great trip to combine to countries and cities using the Eurostar Chunnel to get from one to another.
You can stay two or three nights in each, and it really makes no difference where you start or end the trip.

Going to explore London! And the quieter Cambridge area. Then Liverpool to check out the city that created the Beatles. And I'll finish it up with a 3-day return visit to Paris! Yep, it's gonna be a great vacation!
