This 3-Day teaser trip will introduce you to the Joshua Tree National Park & 29 Palms. The Joshua Tree grows only in the Mojave desert. The area has only two entrances: In the north in Twenty Nine Palms, and in the south in Cottonwood Springs, 25mi/40km east of Indio.
Both entrances have visitors' centers, where you can obtain maps of this national monument and other information, before setting out to explore this beautiful desert landscape at an altitude of 1,000 to 6,000ft/300 to 1,800m.

Trip Notes
Joshua Tree is crisscrossed with hundreds of faults, and is a great place to see raw rocks and the effects of earthquakes. The famous San Andreas Fault bounds the south side of the park and can be observed from Keys View.
Stay 2 nights at the north entrance, enjoying hikes & horseback riding. On the last day, drive through the park to check out the Cottonwood Spring Oasis. |

Day 1
Start your trip off with a horseback ride to acquaint you with the terrain & beauty of the desert landscape.
Then head into the park & picnic & explore around the Hidden Valley Campground where you can take a leisurely 1 mile loop trail to a picnic area.

Day 2
Full-on hiking today!
The Blue Cut Fault line, in the center of the park, can be seen from the hilltop behind Lost Horse Mine. The fault forms the straight, abrupt base of the Hexie Mountains east of Queen Valley.

Day 3
Drive south through the park to the Cottonwood Spring area. There, you can take a short hike to the oasis or keep going beyond that & hike to the Los Palms Oasis.
