This trip to the Canadian Rockies is a combination of 2 User's trips: Reggie & lmaybee. lmaybee is a person after this editor's heart as this is the 2nd trip of hers I've made into an Editor's Choice. Tips from both Users are included here. This trip combines 2 popular National Parks in the Canadian Rockies into one great family experience.

Trip Notes
By leaving on a Sunday, returning Friday, you'll save some $ on both flight & hotel expenses (tho the Fairmonts in Banff & Jasper are both top-of-the-line hotels!).

Day 1
Fly into Calgary, we will pick up a rental car and head for the mountains.

Spend the afternoon exploring the town, including a stop at the information center and a walk along the Bow River to the Fairmont Banff Springs.
Day 2
First we will head to Lake Minnewanka for the morning's first tour boat departure. After a picnic lunch at Two Jack Lake we will take the Bow Valley Parkway to the village of Lake Louise.

Get up early in the morning to try and get a glimpse of some of the animals. They are usually out and about early in the morning on the Bow Valley Parkway.

After hiking the Johnston Canyon Falls eat lunch at the restaurant at the falls.
Day 3
At Lake Louise go to the Gondola ride off of the Bow Valley Highway. There is a chance for sightings of Grizzly bears. Also wonderful site for pictures of Lake Louise. This is where many of the famous photographs of Lake Louise are taken from.

Stops:
Hector Lake - we referred to this as reflection lake because of the incredible reflecitons of the mountains on the lake. This is a great spot for pictures.

Crowfoot Glacier - Interesting to see how Global warming has melted the glacier in the past 100+ years.

Num-Ti-Jah Lodge - Great place to take pictures.

Stop off for the tour of the Columbia Icefields. This is worth the price.

Continue on the Jasper and tour the city.
Day 4
Today, you'll head north on the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93) to get to the Jasper National Park (figure on about 2 1/2 hrs driving, more if you stop for photo ops!).
Day 5
Start the day with a horseback ride!
Then head to Maligne Lake for a picnic by the lake.
Finish your day's excursion by heading over to the Maligne Canyon for some spectacular scenery.
Day 6
It's nearly 5 hours driving back to Calgary to drop off your car & catch a plane so get an early start & make along the way (like the Athabasca Falls).
