Yellowstone National Park, set aside as a national park on March 1, 1872, is located mostly in the U.S. state of Wyoming, though it also extends into Montana and Idaho. The park was the first of its kind, and is known for its wildlife and geothermal features, especially Old Faithful Geyser, one of the most popular areas in the park.
Aboriginal Americans have lived in the Yellowstone region for at least 11,000 years. The region was bypassed during the Lewis and Clark Expedition in the early 1800s. Aside from visits by mountain men during the early to mid-1800s, organized exploration did not begin until the late 1860s. The U.S. Army was commissioned to oversee the park just after its establishment. In 1917, administration of the park was transferred to the National Park Service, which had been created the previous year. Hundreds of structures have been built and are protected for their architectural and historical significance, and researchers have examined more than 1,000 archaeological sites.

West Yellowstone thru Yellowstone to Jackson Trip
By Natalicook8
4 days
This is a great 4-Day varied trip where you'll enjoy grizzlies, white-water rafting, an IMAX movie...and take a souring tour on a balloon ride! A good combination of scenic driving along with hands-on adventure. Fun for the whole family, especially those with older kids & teenagers. This is considered a luxury trip because you'll be staying at some of the best accommodations to be found in these areas like the Jenny Lake Lodge and the Snake River Lodge & Spa.

The drive thru Yellowstone is a must once in your life. The geyers are neat and steam pools are cool yet stinky.

Not very impressed. Way too crowded for my tastes. The geyser and spring formations were neat. Not sure if I'd go back.

So many attraction and things to do in Yellowstone. This is a true American wilderness with amazing vistas, geysers, hot springs, hikes and more...
Winter is an entirely different expereince. The park is less crowded and the park is covered with snow. There are still manay winter attractions and the best way to explore is with a snowmobile

We stayed in Jackson Hole, WY, and drove to Yellowstone. I remember seeing the new growth from where a fire destroyed those tall trees.

Pretty awesome park! So much variety. We visited the geysers and hot springs. Some of them smelled like rotten eggs but colors are really pretty. Can't beat old faithful! Had a great time spotting wild animals such as bison, bears, wolves, deer, elk, coyotes, etc!
