Once upon a time, Orlando was a small town surrounded by cow pastures and citrus fields. With the development of Walt Disney World and Universal Studios, SeaWorld and a host of smaller attractions, those cow pastures turned into planned communities that house a wide range of residents, from Disney's 55,000 "cast members" to sports celebrities and millionaires. Now, virtually all of Central Florida defines itself by its distance from Orlando, while Orlando defines itself by its distance from Disney World. Towns that once had identities of their own now fight to retain that identity, succeeding in varying degrees.

Getting There & Getting Around Every major commercial airline and many charter aircraft fly into burgeoning Orlando International Airport or the much smaller Sanford International Airport. Amtrak trains connect the city with cities along the U.S. east coast with stops in Kissimmee, Winter Park and Orlando, while Amtrak's Auto Train boards both passengers and their cars for the trip between Lorton, Virginia near Washington D.C. to Sanford, a small town just north of Orlando. Greyhound buses bring people here from every corner of the nation.

By Sarahwills
6 days
This started as a short 4-Day trip to Orlando, Miami and Key west. It turned into a 6-Day trip because there was so much to see & do...Favorite parts were the Wet n Wild in Orlando and Jetski at Key West.

I lived in Orlando for a few years as a child (way before the gazillions of new attractions emerged)and loved it! The weather was great all year long and I love the flora and fauna. One of my best memories is when I went back for vacation with my sister and our children and niece. Universal Studios was a blast. We enjoyed watching the kids have so much fun. We would love to do it again with them and the grandkids when they get older.

We went to Disney World and Universal Studios. I never had such a blast! We even took a day to drive to Cocoa Beach. It was beautiful!

If you're not going to Florida for the beaches, most seem to go for Disney/Orlando. I've never been a huge Disney fan and usually avoided Orlando, but was pleasantly surprised when I finally spent some time down on I-Drive. Universal Studios is pretty cool, too.
