Ocho Ríos is a town on the northern coast of Jamaica, located in the parish of Saint Ann. It is a popular tourist destination, well known for scuba diving and other water sports. Ocho Ríos was once a sleepy fishing village until it was discovered. Ocho Ríos is a favored destination of many famous beachcombers such as disco diva Donna Summer, and Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones. It is now second only to Montego Bay in importance to the tourism industry in Jamaica. It is a popular destination for cruise ships. Ocho Ríos is also known as the home of Dunn's River Falls. This is a popular attraction that is visited by thousands of visitors each year. Dunn's River Falls cascades down approximately 695 feet into the sea. Fed by springs located in the hills above, visitors take pleasure in 'climbing' the falls as the water rushes around them. Several of the best resorts in Jamaica are located near Ocho Ríos, including the all-inclusive Sans Souci Couples Resort & Spa, Sunset Grande Jamaica at Ocho Rios, Sandals Grande Ocho Ríos, the newly built RIU Ocho Ríos, the refurbished Shaw Park Beach Hotel & Spa, the Jamaica Inn, Royal Plantation and The Blue House Luxury Bed and Breakfast Inn. Ocho Ríos has gained substantially in popularity among vacationers in recent years as the north coast highway has been improved from the international airport at Montego Bay to Ocho Ríos -- a two hour drive.

The city is also considered one of the safest areas for tourists in Jamaica. There are a number of good restaurants, a lively night club scene at Margaritaville as well as the nation's two most popular attractions in Jamaica -- Dunn's River Falls (described above) and Dolphin Cove, where visitors are able to swim and interact with dolphins. The resort was featured in the 10cc track "From Rochdale to Ocho Ríos". A natural mineral spring fills a pool in Ocho Rios at the Couples Sans Souci. In the natural mineral spring resides a turtle who is more than one hundred years old.

Stay at a hostel so that we have more $ for the tours. Try seeing the places without tours, if possible and utilize the public transportation system whenever possible.

This is a serious contender for our 30th anniversary getaway, specifically because of the Great Huts, situated in a village & overlooking the ocean. A hut experience with amenities...sounds like a great mix of a cultural experience

This tour is packed full of adventure, excitement and adrenaline! Take a tour on a safe and fun ATV around Jamaica's scenic countryside! Discover the history of the area and explore beneath the jungle canopy! Take a refreshing swim in the Caribbean Sea and cool off before browsing through the gift shop!
Start your tour at a local farm with a short safety briefing and riding lesson. Then, head across the Richmond Property to learn all about the history of a sugar factory situated on one of the oldest estates in Jamaica.
Ride through a river bed, lush forests and tropical foliage before stopping at the village of Chester, the home of the Chester All Age School. Observe the children in their learning environment and enjoy stories of the school and the community's colorful history.
Journey deeper into the scenic country side through paths that meander along shadowed corridors, beneath the jungle canopy and across river beds and hillocks. Refreshments are served while you enjoy a spectacular view of the coastline and the Caribbean Sea.

A charming place and the wreck diving isn't bad either! The travelling back and forth is a bit harried, but worth it when you get to wherever you are staying. The water, sand and people are all quite lovely. Oh ya -- its rains every day (for about 1/2 hr) which is actually quite nice (if you like the rain) ...otherwise Ochos was great!
