Question: Why do so many folks that visit the Asheville area on vacation end up moving here? Answer: Once they visit, they love it so much they either stay, or make plans to move to the area in the future. A truly eclectic, comfy, and beautiful mountain city, Asheville invites you to make our city YOUR city! For those that love the outdoors, this area beckons your soul to explore Mother Nature and all her beauty. Whether you spend the day hiking on the Appalachian Trail or along the  Blue Ridge Parkway , you will not be at a loss for magnificent views and crisp mountain air. But there are more than just mountains to discover in this breathtaking haven.

Downtown

Smothered in a helping of southern charm and nostalgic buildings, downtown Asheville maintains the old and welcomes the new. Art galleries, restaurants, businesses and shops of all types make up the heart of Asheville.

Covering 11 of the 14 states of the Appalachian Trail. Want to explore the rugged mountaintops, the small towns in between & hit some resort areas as well...and oh, yeah, some historically significant spots as well.

Loved our visit to the Biltmore Estate (we stayed at the Inn on the Biltmore Estate) and appreciated the excellent restaurants and liberal feel of the town. We were surprised, however, by the down-at-the-heel feel of some parts of the town, which seems to have seen better days. On the other hand, the cost of real estate is sky-high. I think it is probably a very desirable place to live with few job opportunities for locals (similar to Ashland, OR--but Ashland lacks the boarded up buildings I saw in Asheville).

If you like crafts, this is the place to go. There are art and crafts galleries all over, with all price-ranges. The Woolworth Walk was my favorite.
